Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is the source of autologous growth factors. It is a new topic in the field of surgery to treat wounds with auto-healing mechanism for tissue repair. PRP comes from autologous blood, has no risk of immune rejection and disease transmission, and is safe and reliable. Platelets contain rich growth factors, which can induce and regulate cell division, differentiation and proliferation, thus accelerating the natural healing process of bone and soft tissue.

The human body has the ability to heal itself. At the early stage of all tissue injuries, hundreds of growth factors participate in tissue repair. However, with the passage of wound healing time, this high concentration and large amount of growth factors are greatly reduced, which is not conducive to tissue repair.

The scientific community unanimously believes that concentrated platelet-rich plasma contains high concentrations of growth factors that maintain a high level of regeneration throughout the healing period after injection into the injured site. In the 1970s, hematological scientists created the term platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to describe plasma with a higher platelet count than peripheral blood, also known as platelet-rich growth factor (GF) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) matrix, PRF and platelet concentrate.

PRP was originally an infusion product for the treatment of thrombocytopenia patients. Later, PRP began to be used as platelet fibrin (PRF) in maxillofacial surgery. On the one hand, because fibrin has adhesive and stable properties, on the other hand, it is rich in platelet plasma PRP and its anti-inflammatory properties to stimulate cell proliferation.

Subsequently, PRP was mainly used for sports injuries in the musculoskeletal field, and was initially developed as a hemostatic agent. However, it was soon discovered that PRP also had the characteristics of promoting growth, which can be used to accelerate the repair of aging and damaged tissues. Gradually, it has attracted wide attention among professional athletes.

It is now known that PRP contains many growth factors, nutrients, protein stabilizers (such as albumin) and other important bioactive compounds, which can be used for cell and tissue regeneration. In recent years, the use of PRP in the field of cosmetic surgery has also become popular, partly because it is easy to separate and use.
